Mr. Howell has called Idaho home for nearly 20 years. Mr. Howell obtained his bachelor’s degree from Saint John’s University in Minnesota. While at Saint John’s, Mr. Howell accumulated numerous academic honors while playing four years of varsity ice hockey. Mr. Howell moved west and obtained his law degree from the University of Idaho College of Law. Mr. Howell’s academic success continued throughout law school as he served as the President of the Student Bar Association. Mr. Howell gained a wide variety of practical experience while attending the University of Idaho College of Law, arguing cases in front of the United States Tax Court and working for the Federal Public Defenders of Eastern Washington and Idaho. Mr. Howell also externed for United States District Court Judge Edward J. Lodge.

 

Upon graduation from the University of Idaho College of Law, Mr. Howell accepted a law clerk position with the Honorable Cheri C. Copsey in the Fourth Judicial District for the State of Idaho. Thereafter, Mr. Howell worked at the firm of Brassey, Wetherell, Crawford & McCurdy. Mr. Howell became a partner, and later the managing partner, as the firm changed its name to Brassey, Crawford & Howell. Mr. Howell left the firm to start a new venture with Randall Barnum, creating the law firm Barnum Howell.

 

Mr. Howell’s practice focuses on civil litigation, primarily business litigation and general tort defense. Mr. Howell has a wide range of clients from large insurance companies to small local businesses. In addition, Mr. Howell serves on the Criminal Justice Act Panel, providing representation for indigent criminal defendants in federal court. Mr. Howell is a member of the Idaho State Bar and is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the District of Idaho, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and all Idaho state courts.

Mr. Howell enjoys skiing, boating, golfing, and spending time with his family. Mr. Howell serves as the President of the Junior Steelheads youth ice hockey club and coaches within the Junior Steelheads organization.
